The Truckle Cheese Co is a leading online retailer of the finest British cheeses, chutneys and accompaniments.

Over the past 15 years, it has built an unrivalled reputation for sourcing and selling outstanding and delicious cheese from some of the UK’s best producers, along with irresistible chutneys, award-winning charcuterie, rillettes and pâtés, artisan biscuits and farmhouse butter.

QBD has worked with Truckle Cheese for several years, after we built its first ecommerce website. Our relationship has strengthened since then and we now provide a host of digital, marketing and business growth support.

Challenging the norm

The Challenge

At the start of 2020, Truckle appointed us to manage its social media presence and advertising on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, asking us to increase followers, boost engagement and drive more traffic to its ecommerce website.

However, due to the impact of COVID-19, many of the events that Truckle would have traditionally attended to drum up sales – such as food festivals and Christmas markets – were cancelled.

So, we were also asked for help to generate more online sales to make up for the trade Truckle lost due to being unable to attend events throughout the year.

We took a percentage of the budget that Truckle would have spent on attending events and used it  to develop and deliver a full digital marketing strategy to help drive sales through its website.

A fresh approach

The Solution

The digital marketing programme we delivered included keyword research and SEO, email campaigns, Facebook Ads, Google Ads and organic social media posts.

Using Facebook Ads, we targeted an audience of foodies and cheese lovers, using remarketing and lookalike audiences to extend their reach to more people with interest in similar brands and products.

We created Google Ads around specific, highly targeted keywords to maximise Truckle’s ad spend and to not compete with supermarkets and larger retailers.

We also sent out regular emails which were content-led and aimed at providing useful information to subscribers, to encourage them to visit the website and make a purchase.

The Impact

Since we implemented the new strategy, traffic to Truckle’s website has doubled on the previous quarter. It is up a massive 300% compared to the same period in 2019.

The number of new customers increased by 104%, the number of orders went up by 138%, while ‘Likes’ of Truckle’s Facebook page increased by 112%.

And the most recent email campaign saw Truckle record its best-ever sales figures, receiving more than £2,500 of orders.

“The results speak for themselves. Not only is traffic up across the board, but we are also recording sales at levels that are better than anything we’ve achieved before, which is just fantastic.”
