Case Study
Building a flexible charity website that continues to grow
Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust
The Client
Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust is a UK children’s cancer charity working towards a future where no family faces childhood cancer alone.
The charity raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, produces educational resources for families and healthcare professionals, supports families affected by childhood cancer and funds research into rare childhood cancers.
Its website plays an important role in helping families access trusted information and support, while also connecting the charity with fundraisers, volunteers, medical professionals and researchers.

Accessible from the outset
The Challenge
As a small but growing charity, Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust needed a website that could effectively support both its immediate needs and its long-term ambitions.
The website needed to make important information easy to find, particularly for families who may be visiting during an incredibly difficult and overwhelming time. Clear navigation and accessibility were therefore central to the project.
The charity also needed greater control over its website. Its staff and volunteers needed to be able to update pages, publish information and manage content without having to rely on a developer every time a change was required.
Just as importantly, the website needed to be flexible enough to grow alongside the Trust. Rather than creating a platform that would quickly become restrictive or outdated, the charity needed strong technical foundations that could accommodate new services, resources and fundraising activities in the future.
Designed to evolve
The Solution
QBD designed and developed a responsive WordPress website using Elementor Pro, creating an accessible and easy-to-navigate platform that could be managed internally by the charity’s team.
The website was structured around the needs of its different audiences, helping families, supporters, healthcare professionals and researchers find relevant information more easily.
Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust was given full access to the website, alongside comprehensive training for its staff and volunteers. This gave the team the confidence and independence to manage everyday updates, add new content and keep important information current.
The website was also built with future development in mind. By establishing strong technical foundations from the outset, QBD created a flexible platform that could be expanded as the charity’s work, audience and requirements continued to grow.
Over the years, additional functionality has been introduced without the need to replace the core website. This has included:
- An online donation and payment gateway
- An eCommerce shop
- An events calendar
- An expanding information and resource hub
- Dedicated content for families, healthcare professionals and researchers
The result is no longer simply a charity brochure website. It has developed into an important digital platform supporting the Trust’s services, fundraising, communications and wider mission.
A long-term digital partnership
The Impact
The website has continued to evolve alongside Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, supporting the charity as it has expanded its services, resources and reach.
Families can access important information and support through a clear, structured website, while supporters can donate, purchase products, discover events and learn how to get involved.
The charity’s staff and volunteers retain control over the platform and can manage routine content internally, while still having access to QBD’s technical expertise when more complex support or development is required.
QBD continues to provide monthly support to Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust through its dedicated support team and regular meetings with Rich Brown, QBD’s Head of Lead Generation and who has lots of experience in the charity sector.
This ongoing partnership allows QBD to understand the charity’s changing priorities, provide practical digital advice and identify opportunities for the website to better support its work.
Rather than standing still, the website continues to be reviewed, developed and improved to meet the needs of a growing charity and the families and professionals who rely on its resources.
“QBD has been a pleasure to work with from the start. They’ve taken the time to understand our charity and what we’re trying to achieve, providing practical advice and support throughout the development of our website. The team is approachable, responsive and easy to work with, always coming back to us quickly and keeping projects moving forward. We value their collaborative approach and their ability to explain technical matters in a way that makes sense. It’s reassuring to know our website is in capable hands, and we look forward to continuing to work together.”
