Say hello to our managing director
In the latest of our series of Meet the Team profiles, we catch up with our managing director and resident SEO guru Paul Dyer to find out a bit more about his day-to-day life running QBD.
How long have you been with QBD, and what are your main roles?
I am the managing director of QBD, having bought the business back in 2010. I spend time helping my colleagues and looking after the growth plans for QBD. I also specialise in helping other businesses identify how they can grow through having a great website and a digital presence that ranks well and generates new business.
What did you do before joining?
Before QBD, I ran my own multi-million pound businesses created from start-up, but prior to that I worked for Sony and Samsung as general manager and was responsible for large teams and budgets.
What’s your skillset?
Being authentic. I have an inherent understanding of how to grow a business, with proven success. People skills, sales and comprehensive knowledge of good website practice and SEO. Accomplished business skills.
What do you enjoy most about working at QBD?
Working with my colleagues and customers, seeing the results we can deliver, influencing change.
Where do you live? Do you have family or pets?
I live in Evesham, have a lovely wife and two grown up sons who both have their own homes. No pets, just a garden full of wonderful wildlife – much better.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love to relax with boys’ toys, photography, drones, flying model aircraft and helicopters. I am also learning to play the piano.
This helicopter belongs to Richard Hammond (of Top Gear fame) – I really did fly it for an hour!
Tea or coffee?
Both, but prefer tea
Sweet or savoury?
Savoury.
Favourite food?
Anything. I always give thanks that I have some.
Ideal dinner party guests and why?
I’m not a dinner party person, just family and close friends. I’ve had dinner with several famous people over the years and in most cases, just got bored.
Favourite music?
Gosh, when you are as old as me, so many memories have been created with music, so too many to mention. I loved seeing live performances such as Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac in the past. I also enjoy listening to soprano.
Favourite film?
Too many to mention, loved Darkest Hour, with a great performance by Gary Oldman. Really enjoyed Yesterday and Rocket Man too. Oh, and the spaghetti westerns are pure classic.
This is me flying a friends hand-built plane!
If you could have any super-power, what would it be?
To heal the sick.
Quirky fact about yourself
I once rebuilt a classic Lotus Elan from chassis up. I also bought and sold eight cars when I was 18 years old, starting with an old mini and ending up with a Lotus Europa within 12 months. The initial mini cost £150 and that’s all I spent.
